Update from Chairman, Graeme Pierson

GPierson 170415It is again my pleasure that I write this report for the information of all members of Fellowship NZ Inc. I would like first to welcome on to the Council, Margaret Tosland from New Plymouth as the new Councillor for District 9940 which brings us up to a full complement.

At a recent meeting Council decided to send out a request to clubs to forward to Council a suggested new name for our organisation. At the present time we are still able to use the Probus name but that could change at any time. A full explanation about what may be used and what cannot be used will be included in this message from our Secretary, Jim Taylor. We are aware that this is a matter of some urgency because PSPL may at any time change their position over this matter.

Council has received a draft Constitution from Mr Cecil Hood, a Probus member from the Nelson area and this is being studied by Council to ensure that the matters referred are what are required in such an important document. When this is done the draft Constitution will be sent out to all affiliated clubs for their comment. This is a very important step forward for our organisations.

Since my last report Councillors, including myself, have again been to various areas for meeting with the clubs therein and this has proved to be a very popular decision. I am sure members that attended went away feeling that the meetings were well worthwhile, both for the information they received and for the queries we were able to assist them with. It was a similar vein with all the meetings as to what member clubs expected from Council which was very helpful for us as well. Thanks to all members who attended the meetings. I was really appreciative of the kind and friendly manner in which we were received.

Clubs have made a good effort to pay their affiliation fees this year however there are still a number of clubs who have not yet done so. It would be really appreciated if clubs that are still in arrears could please make the effort to pay as soon as possible.

The AGM of Fellowship NZ Inc. was held in Christchurch on Friday, 26 August 2016. Further information about the meeting is on page 7 of this newsletter.

At our recent meeting Council appointed our Administrator Rosemarie Shaw to a permanent position. We consider that Rosemarie has done an excellent job in the position for which we are very grateful and has earned a permanent position.

There have been some complaints about accessing the Website and I have discussed this with the Webmaster, Erik Vermaat, who confirms that if clubs are in that position to just contact him via the Contact Us menu, as he is only too happy to assist.

My best wishes to all members.
Graeme Pierson - Chairman, FNZI
